Free home visits from a midwife from 2026
From January 2026, women who give birth in the Czech Republic have the right to three home visits from a midwife, fully covered by their public health insurance. The aim is to give mothers better support during the first six weeks after birth.
When you leave the hospital, you will receive a referral that allows you to use these three visits. The visits are optional, but they can provide important help with breastfeeding, recovery after birth, newborn care and early detection of any physical or mental health issues.
Please note that this benefit is only for women covered by the Czech public health insurance system (= for example, employees, women with permanent residence or others who are insured publicly).
It does not apply to women who have commercial health insurance.
The midwife must also have a contract with your health insurance company for the visits to be covered. There may not be many English-speaking midwives available but it is still a very valuable form of support for new mothers living in Brno.
