Summer Cinemas across Brno 2025: Films, Fresh Air and Chill Vibes

There’s nothing quite like watching a film under the open sky. In Brno, summer cinemas are a long-held tradition, with several unique screening spots to pick from.

From castle walls to city courtyards and even tucked-away office parks, film screenings take over public spaces across the city. Whether you’re in the mood for an arthouse documentary, a Hollywood blockbuster, or a quiet European drama, you’ll find something to suit your taste — many screenings are English-friendly, and the atmosphere is always unmatched.

Here’s your go-to guide for Brno’s 2025 summer cinema season:

  1. Špilberk Castle Summer Cinema
  2. Brno-střed Town Hall Summer Cinema
  3. University Cinema Scala – Outdoor Series
  4. Kino Art at Villa Löw-Beer

1. Špilberk Castle Summer Cinema

📍 Špilberk Castle Terrace
💸 90 CZK / 75 CZK students (no presale, tickets at the gate)
📆 Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays — 21:30 in July, 21:00 in August & September

Perched high above the city, Špilberk Castle is hands down the most atmospheric cinema spot in Brno. The terrace offers more than 150 seats, with food, drinks, and popcorn available. Screenings are diverse — from cult classics to Nordic indies and Czech favourites — and while the full programme isn’t always announced in advance, the organisers are happy to tell you if a film is in English or has subtitles (just shoot them a message on Facebook).

Bonus: they offer special “blind” screenings – you don’t know what you will watch. If you’re not enjoying the movie, you can leave within 20 minutes and get your money back.

Selected English-friendly screenings:

  • Gladiator II – 4 July
  • The Bikeriders – 24 July
  • Novocaine – 25 July

English speakers will appreciate that most films are in their original language with Czech subtitles, and some Czech films come with English subtitles too. They also have a special cycle for German theatre (Das Sommerküno) and for cinema geeks (Cyclus pro fajnšmekry). Dogs allowed, no smoking.
