Discover a new summer festival in Brno

Terrace If you took part in 15th Open Coffee, you will certainly remember the venue – Restaurant Hansen terrace. If not, we recommend you to take note of this place, and especially of the ongoing summer festival being held there.
The terrace of Besední dům (Municipal House), where Hansen is located, certainly has the potential to become one of the most important urban spaces in Brno. Situated right in the city centre, yet peacefully hidden and relaxed at the same time, it could easily become one of the most popular venues in the city. Bringing life to this forgotten place is precisely what Hansen is aiming to achieve with the summer festival Léto pod platanem (Summer under the Sycamore) taking place on this terrace.
Léto pod platanem boasts an eclectic program, ranging from Monday Latino nights to Sunday family afternoons. There is something going on at the Hansen terrace almost every day.
As already mentioned, Mondays are dedicated to Latino dance lovers, as DJ Mehdi spins Latino, Latino jazz, samba, salsa and zouk from 5 to 10 pm. The spacious terrace is actually the best open-air ballroom in town. On Tuesdays, the terrace becomes an open-air cinema showing subtitled classic Czech movies such as Vesničko má středisková (My Sweet Little Village by Jiří Menzel) on 19 July or Pelíšky (Cosy Dens) on 26 July. The show starts at 9:30 pm.
If you like to discover different varieties of coffee, whisky or rum, then Thursday may be your day. Feeling a bit jazzy? There are jazz concerts on Fridays and Saturdays, alternated by DJs some weeks. On Sundays, Hansen has a family afternoon program wherein your kiddiewinks will be looked after and entertained by the staff so you can enjoy the lazy summer atmosphere and spoil yourselves with Hansen food.
Some events are free, like Sundays and Mondays, while others are charged (for example 40 czk for a Friday jazz concert). For the full program in Czech check the website or Facebook page.
