Summer city camps: A Helpful solution for working parents

July and August are school-free months in the Czech Republic.

2-month summer holidays are a time of great joy for children, but they can often be a source of stress for working parents. If you do not have enough vacation days or relatives nearby to help with childcare, city camps (in Czech: příměstské tábory) are an excellent solution.

What is a City Camp?

Unlike a traditional camp where children stay overnight for a week or more, a city camp is a day-based program. You drop your child off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon, similar to a school or kindergarten routine. These camps usually run for one week and offer a specific theme or set of activities.

Why Choose a City Camp?

  • Active Program: Children enjoy organised sports, creative workshops, or educational trips.
  • Social Integration: It is a great way for children to find new friends and integrate better into the local community.
  • Convenience: Parents can continue working while knowing their children are safe and active.

Important Information

The selection of camps in Brno is very diverse, ranging from sports and science to art and languages. Please keep in mind:

  • Availability: Camps fill quickly. Many are already full. Look and book now.
  • Language: Most websites are only available in Czech. You may need to use a browser translator or ask a Czech-speaking friend for help.
It is okay if your children don’t speak fluent Czech. It’s a perfect opportunity to immerse them in the Czech-speaking community and peers.
  • Financial Support: Camps can be expensive. Low-income families can use Parental Vouchers (Rodičovské vouchery) to help cover the costs with selected organisations. You can find more details on the Brno ID portal.
