Bringing culture to Brno? Apply for a grant covering up to 70%
Whether you’re organising a public event, running a music club, publishing a magazine, leading creative workshops, or launching a community arts programme, your project might be eligible for a cultural grant from the City of Brno.
Each year, Brno supports a wide spectrum of cultural activities through its grant programme. Funding is available in areas such as music, theatre, literature, visual arts, dance, folk traditions, audiovisual arts, and general cultural and educational activities for all age groups.
Who can apply?
Individuals (both Czech and foreign), informal groups, and non-profits are welcome, as long as you’ve been active in the cultural field for at least two years. There is no requirement for your type of residency. It’s your project or activity itself that must have residency in Brno, that is, have a direct link to the city.
Among Brno’s expat community, a notable successful applicant and recipient of the cultural grant is Afrofest, a vibrant summer event now held annually.
How much?
The city can cover up to 70% of your project costs. The rest must be financed from other sources. Keep in mind that some costs, such as food or real estate, are not eligible.
You can apply for either a one-year or two-year grant, depending on whether your project is a one-off or a regular activity. Applications are evaluated competitively based on cultural value, impact on the city, professional quality, and cost-effectiveness.
Deadline for 2026
Applications for 2026 must be submitted between 15 August and 30 September 2025.
How to apply
Applications must be filled out online (in Czech or Slovak), printed, signed, and submitted with all required documents in person, by post, or via data box. Unfortunately, applications in English are not accepted.
