The programme groups at 10:30 are fully booked now. However, you can join us for the informal part of the walk, beginning at 12:30 from the Lesní školka bus stop.

Following up on our January mental health webinar, we would like to follow up with a practical experience of taking a walk in the forest, making use of Lesní myslForest Mind, a special programme we discovered right here in Brno, inspired from Finland.

Spending time in nature has been found to promote health. Forest Mind is an innovation system of mental skills exercises designed to utilize and intensify the natural healing effects of forests. This method uses the latest, most widely accepted trends in psychology, therapy, and coaching, including mindfulness and life coaching, in a natural setting or with natural imagery.

It has been scientifically proven that 10 minutes spent in the forest lead to a drop in blood pressure, 20 minutes – improvement in mood, 60 minutes – sharpening of attention, 2 hours – recovery of the immune system, 5 hours a month – an increase in positive emotions.

We will be guided by a trained Forest Mind instructor, Martina Holcová. The walk will include ca. 5 exercises, 5 minutes each, done in small groups. This part with the programme will be ca. 3 km long. Make sure to wear appropriate clothes and shoes suitable for possibly cold and muddy terrain, pack a snack and a thermos with hot tea.

EVENT INSTRUCTIONS:

The Forest Mind programme is ideal for a group of 8 people. There will be 2 groups which can be formed, beginning at 10:30.

We will meet at 10:00 by the terminus of tram no. 5 and 9, Štefánikova čtvrť, and from there we’ll take bus no. 57 to Lesní školka stop (beyond Soběšice)  where we’ll begin at 10:30 am. (You can also park your car here.) We’ll make a 3 km long circle in the forests around there and return to the same point – Lesní školka bus stop around 12:30. After this taster part of the walk, those who wish can continue walking for another 8 km to Vranov or 4km to Ořešín and return to town from there.

For those who won’t be able to make it this weekend but would like to experience the programme anyway, please refer to the Forest Mind website for future events in English. Or we could tentatively organise another walk some other time, for example on a weekday from 5 – 7 p.m. after work, while it’s still light outside.

By attending a free public event organised by the Brno Expat Centre I hereby give my consent to the use of photos from the event which may contain my likeness. These may be used in BEC documentation and promotion materials.
