You’ve recently arrived in Brno. You started your job. You found a place to live. Congratulations! And now you’d like to feel more at home in that place. To feel at home means to have “your places”, to know where to go and ideally to know some people to connect with.

Our expat volunteers who have been living in Brno a bit longer than you are happy to show you around and help you feel more comfortable around your house: the nice café, the pharmacy, the good bakery, the cosy library, the essential post office, a nice gym or a refreshing park area.

Or, you’ve been living in Brno for some time already, but you’re eager to discover the districts you have never explored. You’re also welcome!

That’s what our District Walks project aims to achieve. Check out the walks and feel free to join any of the walks – either at a date advertised on our Events page, or you can contact them directly and book a date for a walk yourself.

Brno is here for you to be explored and enjoyed!

OLD BRNO (STARÉ BRNO), with Frank

This district, with its central point at Mendlovo náměstí, is the historical cradle where Brno began.

Frank (Netherlands) His first year in Brno was already 1995, and he has been living in Brno permanently since 2006. Professionally, he is a project coordinator for the city, as well as a soft skills trainer.

He has always lived in Staré Brno, and what he loves most about it is that he is close to everything he needs, and when going into town, he can choose to walk across the beautiful Špilberk park or the best residential street, Pellicova.

BYSTRC, with Prathamesh

Originally a small village, outgrown by a large housing estate in the 1980’s, it is still most known for the Brno Lake (přehrada, prígl) where all Brno people go to enjoy the water, space, greenery, sports or boat rides.

Prathamesh (India) has been living in Brno since December 2022. He works at Red Hat as a Manager. He enjoys walking around the Brno dam in the evenings – the large Brno lake located in his district of Bystrc.

VEVEŘÍ, with Jarmila

Veveří is Brno’s vibrant, intellectual neighbourhood just north of the centre, known for its elegant 19th-century architecture and lush green spaces like Kraví hora. With a dense concentration of university faculties, it has a youthful, progressive energy and boasts some of the city’s best independent café and bistro scenes.

Jarmila (CZ) was born in Brno, and she’s happy to see the city becoming a place where creative and inspiring experts choose to live. She coordinates a speech therapy clinic, and in her free time she enjoys sports, hiking, discovering new places, and travelling whenever she gets a chance.
