Why “Red Dress Run”?

In 1987, Donna Rhinehart was invited to a hash run in California to be introduced to the sport. She arrived, thinking it was a social event, in an impressive red dress and heels. She was invited to “wait in the truck.” Instead, Rhinehart joined the run in her red dress.

The following year, the first Red Dress Run was organised by the local hash group, and Donna insisted that if people were going to be so silly, they should do so for charity. The event quickly spread around the globe, and over the years since, Red Dress Runs have raised millions of dollars for charity.

How do I join?

At the spot, you’ll choose a running or walking route, both within the city centre.
Wearing a red dress is the spirit, not the condition, though.
All the money goes to this year’s selected charity, Spolek Vesna.

Sign-up form via this link.

How much?

200 CZK to attend. 100% of this money will be donated directly to Vesna – unlike many other charity events there are no administration costs taken out of the attendance fee, and of course if you wish to donate more you would be welcome to do so.

Who’s the organiser?

Across the globe, it’s the Hash House Harriers clubs, commonly described as “Drinking Clubs With A Running Problem.” In Brno, the event takes place in cooperation with the Brno Expat Centre and supported by the Serial Killer International Festival of TV and Web Series who have kindly offered their red carpet for the start and tickets to Sunday screenings to the participants.

Where will the money go to?

The Women’s Educational Institute (commonly known as Vesna) operates as the first and most important humanitarian aid distribution centre for war refugees from Ukraine and for Czech single parents and families in need.

In short…

  • you can choose a running or walking route, both within the larger city centre
  • you can wear a red dress, if you want to
  • all the money goes to this year’s selected charity, Vesna (see detailed description below)

What does Vesna do?

The Women’s Educational Institute (commonly known as Vesna) is a continuation of the activities of the Czech Women’s Educational Association based in Brno, which was founded in the early 1870s. It focuses on educational, social, and recreational activities for the general public.

In its current form, it operates as the first and most important humanitarian aid distribution centre for war refugees from Ukraine and for Czech single parents and families in need. The Vesna Wardrobe is a unique source of basic material needs. It also functions as a centre for the transfer of information on educational, cultural, recreational, physical, and social activities.

The operation of the Wardrobe would not be possible without the thousands of hours of work of hundreds of volunteers from different countries. Only thanks to them was it possible to provide aid 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, especially during the first three months of the war in Ukraine. Since June 2022, the Wardrobe has again been operating in “pre-war” mode, with visitors making appointments for specific dates. The material for Ukrainian and Czech families in need is supplied by donors from Brno and the surrounding area, including a large number of foreigners. Foreign women are also part of the Wardrobe’s clientele.

The historic buildings of the Vesna association on Údolní 10 also serve as a venue for a number of educational and recreational activities aimed primarily at women and children.

Vesna is always open to cooperation and offers volunteering opportunities for both corporate groups and individual expats. Some of the staff can communicate in English and will be happy to tell you about the various activities you could join. Feel free to contact us at dobrovolnici@spolekvesna.cz.

Pro české účastníky:

Red Dress Run – Běh v červených šatech

Světoznámý charitativní běh (pochod) přichází do Brna!

Stačí i jiné červené oblečení.

Zde najdete přihlašovací formulář.

Za kolik?

Účast vyjde na 200 Kč. A z toho 100% půjde přímo Vesně – z účastnického poplatku se nestrhávají žádné administrativní náklady. Pokud byste chtěli přispět více, uvítáme to.
