When & Where?

Why do tweens and teens become so resistant? How can we support their growing autonomy without losing connection? And what happens when peers begin to matter more than parents?
In this session, we’ll explore key ideas like counterwill, resistance, the drive for autonomy, and the growing influence of peer attachment. We’ll look at why pushback is not simply “bad behavior,” but often part of a young person’s developmental process, and why true independence grows best from secure attachment rather than disconnection. We’ll also explore the risks of peer orientation and why maintaining a strong parent-child relationship remains so important through the tween and teen years.
This session is for anybody who wants a deeper understanding of what is happening beneath the behavior — and how to stay a source of guidance, connection, and influence during these important years. Parents of all ages are welcome, as these behaviours show up in different form already at two years of age and also a sensitive topic with adult children.
