Cool down in the heat of summer in a Baroque church and a cave near Brno.

A trip to Křtiny with a visit to the Church of the Virgin Mary, a Baroque pilgrimage church built during the first half of the 18th century according to the design of the notable architect Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. The entire pilgrimage site was declared a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 2008. A guided tour will include the church and the ossuary, which is not usually open to the public.

A short walk will then bring us to the Výpustek cave for a guided tour which will take cca 75 minutes. Výpustek is one of the most significant cave systems in the Moravian Karst. During World War II, it served as an aircraft engine factory, and during the “Cold War” in the 1960s, a secret military command centre was built inside the cave. Warmer clothes are recommended; the air temperature is 7–8 °C.

Admission: 200 CZK for the church grounds (cash only), 160 CZK for cave admission (credit cards accepted).
Meeting point: Stará osada, bus stop No. 7 at 9:00 a.m.
Departure: Bus No. 207 at 9:15 a.m.
Return: Bus No. 201 at 2:46 p.m. or 3:16 p.m., depending on individual needs.
