Summer picnic + excursion: Ship Ahoy!

We all know Brno has a dam / reservoir / lake at its north-west end, in Bystrc. Prígl is what the locals usually call it in Brno slang. And it also has “steamboats” called “parník” that sail across the waves between spring and autumn. But what are they really? What is their history? And most importantly, how can you enjoy all they have to offer? Join us for our July outing by the ‘Brno Sea’ to find out!

You can easily reach the lake by trams no. 1, 3 and 10, getting off at Přístaviště and walking 3 minutes. We will meet by the large anchor in the port  and head to the headquarters of the shipyard for a special excursion and presentation, then board one of the ships for a short sailing to a grassy beach where we’ll enjoy our picnic and pleasant company. To return, you can either walk back along the water or use the boat again – the last one arrives at the Bystrc port at 21:30. Everyone covers their own boat ticket (CZK 59,-), the rest of the programme is free. (You can buy the ticket in advance here or directly in the port before boarding.)

As for the picnic, the usual applies, i.e. bring a blanket to sit on and whatever you’d like to eat or drink and share with others. Our July picnics are usually a pleasant opportunity to meet other expats at a time when Brno runs at a calmer, holiday pace.
