The walk this spring takes us away from the city’s traditional historical centre to Staré Brno – “Old Brno” – where everything began a thousand years ago.
We’ll go back to Staré Brno’s origins – why it’s where it is, how it grew, its institutions, why it became overshadowed by its younger brother, the City of Brno – and learn something about various individuals associated with the locality over the years, including the medieval proto-feminist Eliška Rejčka (queen Elizabeth Richeza), Prince Ypsilanti, Count Mitrovský, industrialists such as the Skene and Löw-Beer families, Gregor Mendel, Leoš Janáček, Kurt Gödel and others.
Finally, we’ll look at what happened in the twentieth century, what’s there now and what’s in store for the future.
The walk is free of charge, no need to register in advance. It is devised and led by Don Sparling, BEC co-founder and a real Brno legend.
