One of the best-known Czech sayings claims “Co Čech, to muzikant” – “Every Czech is a musician.”
For centuries, music has indeed been central to the country’s culture, and this is particularly true here in Brno. On our walk we’ll be visiting some of the places associated with famous composers – Janáček, of course, and Mozart and Dvořák and Prokofiev – and dipping a bit into where and how the people of Brno enjoyed their music in the past.
Along the way, among other things, you’ll be introduced to the Moravian national anthem, marvel at just how besotted by opera the city was in the eighteenth century, learn about the musical link between Brno and Hollywood, and at the end gaze into the hole that represents Brno’s hope for its musical future.
The walk is free of charge, no need to register in advance.
