Crosscultural Guide

The project aims to map Brno through the experiences of people who were not born here. An alternative city guide will be created from their walking tours of Brno.

Documentation of the walks will be uploaded periodically on www.crosscultural.cz

The project takes place within Sculpture in the Streets / Brno Art Open 2011

Morris Dikenka Kazadi was born in Kinshasa in 1972 and Christ Donald Ngoka in
Brazzaville (Congo) in 1986. They moved to the Czech Republic in 2005 and 2006. They
work at the Nová Mosilana textile company.

Anne Tučková was born in 1968 in Washington, D.C. (USA). In Brno she has been active as
an editor and teacher of English for 17 years.

Robin Smith was born in Aberdeen (Scotland) in 1974. He moved to the Czech Republic in
1998 and teaches English.

Don’s favourite restaurants, winebars, bars and coffee houses from the beginning of the 1970s

Don Sparling was born in Ottawa (Canada) in 1943. He came to Brno in March 1969 to teach English at the State Language School. From 1977–2009 he taught at Masaryk University. Now retired, he is Manager of the Brno Expat Centre.

Nica Mihali was born in Seredne Vodjanoe (Ukraine) in 1970. She came to work in the Czech Republic in 1998 and is employed in the kitchen of a reception centre for refugees in Zastávka u Brna.

Luiz Felipe Limae Silva was born in Rio de Janeiro, (Brazil) in 1991. He is studying computer technology and in Brno is part of an exchange scheme at Masaryk University.

An excursion to Nabi’s places of rest, living and earning

Ing. Nabi Abassi was born in Kabul (Afghanistan) in 1957. From 1981–1986 he studied at
the University of Transport in Žilina. He moved from Kabul to the Czech Republic in 2000. In Brno he runs a food business.

Andrew Oaklandwas born in Nottingham (England) in 1966 and has worked in Brno as a teacher and translator since 1994.

Min Tun Min Soe was born in Mawlamyine (Myanmar) in 1984. He has lived in the Czech Republic for 7 years. He currently works as a receptionist.

Going for a walk with Florian! Where he has been and where he goes now

Florian Tilzer was born in St. Anton am Arlberg (Austria) in 1973. He has been active in Brno since 1997 as a teacher of German, musician, member of the Filigrán dance ensemble, co-organiser of the Natřikrát festival and as a personal development consultant.

Lyuben Petrov was born in Burgas (Bulgaria) in 1984. He arrived in Brno in 2007. At first he was a volunteer at the Legatoclub, and later studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno.

Lidija Pilat was born in Daruvar (Croatia) in 1962. She moved to the Czech Republic in 1993. At first she worked as a psychotherapist with refugees from Bosnia, and later with prisoners and drug addicts.

    this is awesome 🙂 I am sure i will be on some of those tours
    what i was attracted with was name of Lidija Pilat and her work with addicts, refugees and i would like to meet her and to join her group but unfortunately I am at work 🙁
